Greetings! Guy, Marc, and I are here in Calete San Lucas, Baja California Sur. We are currently camping right on the shore of the Sea of Cortez. My bivy sack is coming in useful already. We are about 550 km from La Paz, the final destination of our road trip. From there, we meet up with our other friends Trina and Mark and begin our sea kayak trip.
The trip so far has been fairly uneventful. Much of the first few hours were spent calling Trina and Robert, to arrange for them to bring the things we have forgotten. Our current list:
Guy - documentation for his car
Marc - dive log and tables
Me - spare bike tubes and my handlebar bag
That, and I had to leave my passport behind in a last ditch attempt to get extra pages inserted (Thanks to Jice for taking care of it for me!)
Baja is very desolate, but very beautiful. It reminds me of Joshua Tree Nat'l Park, except there are cacti instead of joshua trees, and there are a lot more carne asada tacos :^)
I'll be sending brief reports like this one whenever I need to access my email. In this case, I needed to mail my roommate to arrange pickup of my handlebar bag. (Thanks Cassidy)
Also, I'd like to send a special thanks to Karen, Janet, Annie and Nathania for helping get my butt out the door.
Forgive the rather cumbersome and ugly format of the mail messages on the website, I'll clean it up when I get to a computer.
Until La Paz,
-peter
