Africa
March 21, 2001 - To the Top of Africa

February 22, 2001 - A Tale of Ten Cities
In order to avoid the high costs, I go on a power tour of the rest of Europe, taking advantage of offers from friends and family to visit. In my whirlwind tour, I pass through France, England, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, and Greece.

- Rocky Roads in Perú, part 1 Atrocious roads, thin
air, and freezing nights can't detract from the wonders
of my biking journey, as I cycle from village to village
high in the Perúvian Alps.

- Breathless in Seattle
Gloomy skies and rain leave me feeling
like I've been mysteriously transported back to America's
Pacific Northwest, rather than being in the tropical,
equadorian country of Ecuador.

Two Faces of Colombia
In an apparent paradox, I find a magical
land of lush mountains and wonderfully warm people amid
a country ravaged by kidnappings, killings, and guerrilla

In Sickness and in Health
A prolonged bout of flu attempts to
sideline my pedaling plans for the mountains of Guatemala,
but to my lungs' dismay, I push on.
Apr. 2, 2000 - They
Call Me Gringo

anonymity turns into a rolling freak show, it becomes

- Where The Sidewalk Ends
A tiny town with dirt roads, abandoned
vehicles, and western restaurants with prices in US
dollars, Los Barriles is a town in transition.
